DIE BRÜCKE looks back on successful LEGO LEAGUE Challenge – honors in Linden

Honors the German American Klub THE BRIDGE:

LINDEN/CENTRAL HESSEN (rge/ger) – A look back at the successful premiere of the robot in Central Hesse- and research competition of the LEGO LEAGUE Challenge in Pohlheim took place at the annual general meeting of the German-American club DIE BRÜCKE Gießen-Wetzlar. At the Landgasthof Zum Löwen near Philipp in Linden, President Petra Bröckmann, who was confirmed in office in the board elections, provided information 40 members about this and other events organized by the club. Previously, under the leadership of Gabi Stephan, the difficulties in Corona times were reminded once again, which made some planned events impossible last year. The planned reception at the beginning of the year could not take place, For this purpose, among other things, a summer party in the Steinbach small animal park was celebrated with numerous guests at the Brücke-BBQ, recalled Bröckmann. Kerstin Pal, as student representative, highlighted the student exchange. Due to Corona, no student could be welcomed in Giessen, this year the American Price Watson from Alabama. As a former Brücke exchange student, he returned to Giessen after studying music and singing, the members were happy. A nice compliment to the host region and BRÜCKE, as was acknowledged at his welcome that evening. He has already found his first job and has been accepted by a Brücke member. Helmut Ott reports on the internship program, that now after the pandemic times, we want to revive it with new ideas and projects. There is interest and potential among local companies despite some challenges in times of change, that's his assessment. Looking back on the successfully organized FIRST LEGO League Challenge, Roger Schmidt thanked the patron Prof. DR. Albrecht Beutelspacher, the regional management of Central Hesse, the city of Pohlheim, the districts of Lahn-Dill and Gießen, the universities and schools as well as other sponsors for their support in the science competition, and that 12 Teams from Central Hesse schools took part in the Volkshalle in Pohlheim. It was an important impulse for Central Hesse as a knowledge location. The club mastered the task with a unique team effort from all members, said Schmidt. Treasurer Klaus Müller was also able to report positive news regarding finances. Accordingly, at the suggestion of auditors Klaus Leske and Daniel Pal, there was a unanimous discharge.

For this year, the BRÜCKE club is planning, among other things, for the 4. October a get-together at the Hotel Steingarten in Giessen with a lecture by the Giessen scientist Prof. DR. Joachim Breckow on the topic of “X-rays”, a hike with a visit to the Roman Forum in Lahnau 15. October, das Goose-Dinner zu Thanksgiving am 25. November at Philipp and participation in the international Christmas carol singing of the partnership associations in Wetzlar 2. December.

In the board elections, everyone was elected unanimously: President Petra Bröckmann, Vice President Anja Gelitzer, Treasurer Klaus Müller, Secretary Gabriele Heidrich, Assessor Stefanie Vera Müller, Student representative Kerstin Pal and committee members Lilli Breithaupt, Anna Dönges and Cathrine Friebel-Müller (alle Social Events), Heinrich Becker (Wetzlar), Helmut Ott (German-American Affairs), Jürgen Gemmer and Roger Schmidt (Consultants).
