History

Based on the existing post-war existence of multiple institutions of American institutions and the presence, for Giessen conditions of many American families, was established in 1948 the first idea of cooperation and friendship between Germans and Americans. Then in March 1950 THE BRIDGE founded as a German American Klub. For further-reaching information on our websitewww.dac-bruecke.deunder the heading "History". In the following years, numerous medical and social institutions in kind- and cash donations supported.

Since the late 50s THE BRIDGE mainly supports two programs of the Federation of German-American Clubs (VDAC) as member club: namely the youth- and student exchange program. for more than 40 years to 30 German and American students of all German American clubs ( www.vdac.de) a year studying in the host country. THE BRIDGE allows in this context a year studying an American student in Giessen and one or two students from pouring into the US. Total has been studying 2.700 allows American students / students in Germany. Thus, this is the student exchange program of the VDAC is the largest privately operated program in Germany.

Based on this success, we have decided, to take the next logical step. As part of our internship program, we want to offer young German and American young people the opportunity, to complete an internship in each of German and American companies.

Target / claim

By the withdrawal of American forces and their families has also tasks- changed and field of activity of our club. The focus of our club has shifted more and more to support cultural and social German institutions in our region. What remains is the search for new, and maintaining contacts with longtime sponsors, to assist us in carrying out our numerous fundraisers. These enable us, to promote projects and programs in accordance with our own convictions to a considerable extent.

In continuation of our traditional and very successful youth- and student exchange we would like to take the next logical step. We want to give young students from the United States the possibility, to complete an internship in preferably medium-sized companies in our region. In the same sense we also want to provide internship opportunities for students of universities and colleges in our region at companies in the US. It is our intention, to address companies in the most diverse sectors of the economy, covering a wide range of practical needs (Research / Development Engineering, production, service, Finance / Controlling, IT etc.) This requires targeted and complex contacts and relationships with a wide variety of supporters and partners of our program. This is not a trivial task; especially since we are in the beginnings of this effort. However, we are confident, that our program will prove noticeable progress. The start has been made. First concrete commitments by companies are. On the basis of these discussions and the large number of contacts, we are able to report initial success soon.

Cooperation / Partnerships

The foundations for the success of our program are contacts, above all,, Relationships and networks. Just the extensive experience of our youth- and students program and the good relations with universities in the US over the VDAC give a qualified approach for our internship program. In addition, we are in contact with numerous institutions and companies such as:

  • Universities and colleges in our region
  • Twinning Germany / USA
  • Country partnerships Hesse / USA
  • regional CCIs
  • International chambers of commerce
  • Regional companies through direct contact
  • Nationwide companies by direct approach

Our added value

The added value (value add) for our partners in our internship program is first of all in the benefits for all concerned ( win-win Situation ). Our common goal is, show beyond politics THE BRIDGE to the people in America. Our commitment as a bridge to the major players in this program participate in all. That is the true benefit and value, to each partner generates for itself. Be it the young people, universities / colleges, the companies, the cities- and state partnerships, chambers of commerce, etc.

outlook

With our internship program, we are at the beginning of a development, which we can successfully shape only in conjunction with interested partners. It requires our club some effort, to make the previously developed relationships so, that the communication processes can be represented as transparent, until they become a recognizable for all mechanism. Our resources are not infinite, so we will continue to work on further developing existing relationships and creating new contacts.
